Dear Makenzie 5 months!

Dear baby girl, 5 months already!! Hard to believe and yet here you are growing and learning and brightening every day!

You visited Dr. Gerst on May 2nd and he said that you are 14lbs 2oz and 25 3/4inchs long! Growing right as you should be!

Lots of new stuff for you this month! You tried sweet potatoes for the first time on May 2nd and LOVED them, you are your daddy's girl of course you loved them. You got the hang of eating off the spoon rather quickly and LOVE when its time to eat in your chair. We also tried out squash on the 12th and you seem to like that a bit as well. We haven't been giving you them regularly yet but will start next month. You also decided this month that there was just too much other stuff to see and that you couldn't be bothered with nursing. You still nurse at night and that makes momma happy. I have a feeling though that even that is on a downward slope as you are not prefering to just sleep lol

You have been working so hard at being mobile on your own too and on the 17th you rolled from your back to your tummy! You don't do it a lot yet but seem to like it for a few minutes when you do.


 We took your first trip to the library also!! You seem to already love books when Momma, Daddy or Aunt Destiny read to you and you love to look at them and turn the pages on your own. You're so smart already and I know that you will just continue to love to learn like Momma and Daddy. You know what lots of words mean already like "bottle" you squirm and squirm and kick your legs cause you know that means it's time to eat. You also know that you need to lift your legs and your bottom when we get out a new clean diaper and your old one is off. You also know that Daddy always says "Ejecto Butto" right before he takes your diaper off to hand you to momma for bath time! You know who Momma and Daddy, Jack and Duker are and you look at whoever is being talked about when their names are said!! Smarty pants!


Mother's day was this month and you and Daddy got Momma a board lol. Momma was confused when daddy said that but later found out what Daddy planned to do with that board. Daddy is still working hard on it but it will look something like this:


May was a big month for "Aunts" too :D you and Momma went to dinner with Aunt Shante and her boyfriend Stephen

Aunt Destiny came over a couple times and even hung out and baby sat you while Daddy hungout with Grandma in the garage. Momma was at work


Aunt Nikita is here from South Dakota and you got to meet her and your cousin Dominus who is just shy of a month younger than you! You're going to be the leader of the Makenzie, Dominus, Nykaila brat pack I think ;)



Momma and Daddy love you so very very much and can't wait to see what this next month brings (which Momma actually already knows cause she's late posting your letter and we're half through it ha!)

Dear Makenzie 4 months!

Dear Kenzie bug, You are the light of my life. Your smile makes my heart happier and fuller than it has ever been. This month was kind of a big one. You started wearing more 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers. You're growing like a weed and even started eating Rice cereal, you spit that up a lot though so we have kind of stopped giving that to you .You learn something new everyday! You rolled over from tummy to back on the 19th! I was so excited for you. I kept repeating how proud of you I was! We are still working on back to front but when you're squirming in your bassinet you can almost get yourself over.You love to be sitting up so we bought you a high chair type thing that you can sit up and just watch the world. You have decided that you don't want to be swaddled to sleep and we have been putting you in your blanket sack thingy with your arms out. You have slept good the last two nights. 

This month found Momma with a new job and less time with you. Leaving you everyday breaks my heart but I also love seeing your face when you see me for the first time when i get home. You're spending much more time with your daddy and you both love that.

Im looking forward to our next month of learning and loving. You are my greatest gift and I love you more than anything in the world <3

Dear Makenzie 3 months!

Hello my gorgeous girl,
3 months old? How does that happen?! You are the light of my life and I am so absolutely crazy in love with you. You are growing and changing so fast! I am the luckiest mommy in the world to have you.

Month 3 was calmer than month 2. We didn't have any visitors and we didn't travel (except to come home to Daddy and your brothers from Colorado at the beginning of the month). That of course doesn't mean you didn't have a few new experiences! While we were in Colorado you got to be outside, out of your car seat and not covered in 100 blankets because the weather there was so good! We were only out a little while but you seemed to like it! While we were there your silly Grandpa Ron taught you to stick out your tongue out and while Daddy thinks that you do it naturally anyway I think that you are actually getting good at doing it as a response to me doing it to you haha! Grandma Tina bought you a play saucer that you stand in and you just love it. Your skinny butt needs 3 blankets packed around you so you don't fall over but you don't seem to mind it at all! You love to stand (or sit and swing, or sit on Daddy's lap) and watch T.V. I know they say we shouldn't let you but you just love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Sophia the first. You also like to sit with Daddy and watch Dr. Who. I think really you just like the colors and movement on the screen but it is still pretty amusing to watch you watch t.v!

You also want to be sitting up as much as possible. We have to prop you up in your bassinet now cause you just don't want to be laying down. When you do lay down though you cover your head with your blanket and to sleep you go! That drives Momma crazy cause I just want you safe but you sleep best that way! Also this month you started sleeping in your crib. It was rough the first night but after that it has been smooth sailing. Your night routine is down pat and you are usually the one to let me know when it is 730-800. On bath nights you lay nicely on your changing table and get your lotion, I dress you and then as I carry you upstairs you start your nuzzling like you are letting me know it is time to nurse so you can go to sleep. You nurse about 5 min, then your eyes start to get heavy, I put you in your crib and OUT you go til you get hungry between midnight and 2. Lately you have been wanting to be awake for the day at 4 or 5am. I get up so angry that it is early but when I walk over to your crib and you see me you give me the BIGGEST smile and I almost always forget how mad I was <3 You are so full of smiles almost all the time, unless of course you are hungry then you let the world know... you get that from your Daddy. You have also started to giggle when tickled or when Momma or Daddy gets you smiling so hard :D It is pretty great. You haven't laughed hard yet but it is coming, I can tell cause you are so happy.

Lately you have been starting to suck on your hands a lot and while some of the stuff I read said you wont get teeth til 6 months I think you might be starting the teething process. You love to chew on everything, your hands, your blankets, Mommy!, and your bears.


Last Sunday was your very first Easter. Easter is a pretty fun little holiday. It has a big long religious meaning but since neither Daddy or I are religious people we just partake in the commercialized non-religious part of it. The Easter bunny was good to you. You got a singing/counting bear, a new outfit that said "My First Easter", a ball you can squish and chew on, a book, and some baby food. You're not quite ready for the baby food. We gave you a small bite and I don't think it was your favorite. We will try again in 3 months or so!

Last week at school we got your pictures taken and you were a natural! You laid there nicely and if there wasn't so many people around we would have gotten a smile but you were too intrigued by all the other kids! You did great though and they will be beautiful I am sure!


Well my little one, on to the next month of you learning and growing ( I am not sure how much you weigh but you are in 0-3/3-6 month clothes! Momma almost cried when that 3-6 month outfit fit you I swore it was too big!) I am enjoying our adventure together so very much and can't wait to see what cute and adorable thing you do next! On we go!

Dear Makenzie 2 months!

Dear beautiful girl of ours,
I can't believe you are already two months old. I am sure I will say that every month. You continue to grow so much! Month 2 was a big month for you, lots of new experiences and adventures!
Shortly after you were born all of the hair on the top of your little head fell out, you still had the sides and back and looked like a little old man in some pictures (but still beautiful of course) it has recently started coming back and thankfully still beautiful brown!

When you lost it all

Right after you turned 1 month old on 2/4/2010 we took at road trip 1.5 hours away to Moline, IL. We stopped and visited your Great Aunt Tina and cousins. Went to I-hop too! Afterwards we stopped at your Great Aunt Donna's house and you met all your second cousins. Great Grandma Judy and Great Grandpa Gale (who you got your middle name after) were there visiting from Nebraska! Grandma and Grandpa followed us back and for 4 days or so they loved on you. :)

You love to go shopping with Momma and like your Momma you love Target. Walmart you sleep right through (or cry the whole time) but Target you are awake and alert and love to just look around. When we went to Waterloo we got you a playmat and you love to just lay on it on the floor and look at the colors. You also love the little mirror that comes attached to it. Jack likes to lay with you, he's your protective big brother... you are never too far out of his sight! While laying on your playmat you found your voice and use it often when just laying around. Sometimes you will be napping and I will hear you wake up and start chatting with yourself! This month has been very big for learning to express yourself! You smile a lot and chatter quite a bit too! On 02/19/2013 Daddy made you smile for the first time! Your smile lights up the room too :D

Sadly month two found Momma having to go back to work. While I love spending time with you it was nice for us to have a little break from each other and it is all the more special when I pick you up at the end of the work day! You seem to like day care and love Miss Danielle and Miss Mindy! All of the kids really love you and they are always asking if we can go to the infant room and visit you!

You are impressing Mommy more and more everyday too! From day one you have been holding your head up but now you love to stand on your own strong little legs while someone holds you up and often get cranky if we make you sit! You also slept for 6 straight hours one night! It was lovely and you woke so happy and refreshed (Momma felt pretty good too!) You seem to know right away when it is Momma's dinner time and need me for something but during this month we discovered that you love your swing (02/22/13) and will gladly sit there for a while allowing Momma to enjoy her dinner!

February was also a rough month, we had to visit the doctor a couple of times. You had a stuffy nose and were pretty congested. We visited Dr. Gerst's office and sadly he was on vacation, they drew your blood and took some tests and decided it was just a cold. On 2/25/13 you were pretty restless and grouchy so we took you in and discovered you had an ear infection in both ears :( We got you on some medicine, which you LOVE the taste of and you were right as rain then next day, which is good because on 2/28 we had something big planned.... your first AIRPLANE ride to Colorado, You turned two months while we were there! We went and visited Grandma Linda and Grandpa Ron, Great Grandma and Great Grandpa came to visit too and you got to meet your Aunt Leann, Uncle Cody, Cousin Nykaila ( who was only 3 weeks old!)  Great Aunt Tami, Aunt Keera and cousin Savanna, Grandma Jana, Hannah, Shannon, Lala, Casey, Sarah, Sarah and Brandon, and Shanna. We did a lot of driving around Colorado and shopping with Aunt Leann and Nykaila :D It was a great trip and you did so wonderful on the plane to and from Iowa! The guy across the isle said to me as we were getting off the plane "I didn't even know there was a baby on this flight!"

You have your Daddy wrapped very tightly already and I can't wait to see how you use your cuteness against him in the years to come! He loves to cuddle with you and hold you and you could just sit with him for hours watching Youtube, or Dr. Who! You two are so very lucky to have each other and I know that he will be the very best Daddy in the whole world! We were even his valentines and we got him a card and some candy! You looked so cute in your little valentines outfit!

You brighten my every day. I am still learning and there are still times when I get angry and frustrated but please know my precious girl that it is never your fault and I will love you with every breath, with every beat of my heart for all of time. More than anything <3

Dear Makenzie 1 month!

Dear Makenzie,
 I can't believe you're here! It seemed like it took forever and then all of a sudden you were ready to be in this world. I am so happy. You are such a good baby. Mostly quiet unless you are hungry and then you let EVERYONE know. It is sad for me when you cry but at the same time I have to smile because you get so mad and when you cry you have the cutest little squeek at the end of your squack! All of the nurses just love you and are contstantly telling me how beautiful you are. And you are, you are the most beautiful baby I have ever seen. Not everyone believes in love at first sight but I do because I knew the moment we found out we were expecting you that I loved you and I know the moment your daddy laid eyes on you that he would never love any one more.

You took to nursing like a pro and could easily do it for 30-40 minutes at a time! You kept falling asleep at first so I would have to rub your cheek or tickle your bottom but then you would wake right up and pick up where you left off.

Your first week in this world was a rough one. We were at the hospital for a couple of additional days because you had jaundice. You got your first glimpse into your Aunt Shantes world by being under the Bili lights. We were only at the hospital overnight but it was a long 24 hours for your daddy, he texted me every other hour saying how much he missed us and especially you! You have him wrapped around your teeny tiny finger already!

Your Grandma Linda and Grandpa Ron came to visit us, they are so in love with you already of course, we all are. Your Godmother Missy also came and you found her nice and cozy to snuggle up to. She is over the moon for you :D

You have a nice pattern down, I wouldn't call it a schedule but you nurse well and then nap for 3 or 4 hours, wake up starving and nurse again and back to sleep you go. You are gaining weight like a rock star and you are so strong! You hold your head up all by yourself already and while Mommy or Daddy hold your upper body you stand on your strong little legs and my goodness are you wiggly.

We have had a few rough nights. Mommy is not used to being on someone else's time and the lack of sleep kind of made her crazy. I got very frustrated, never with you my sweet angel, with myself.

I have to cut this short, because you need me but I will come back and tell you more about you.
